Why lived experience is important for NDIS provider processes

If you value lived experience when choosing systems for your NDIS business, this is for you.

Firstly — why is lived experience important for the systems your NDIS business chooses?

If you want to deliver truly person centred serviced, you need your business systems to be person-centred and industry led as well. The only way that a system will service your specific needs, and continue to evolve and develop in line with your evolving needs, is if their iteration process is tailored to the NDIS.

If you’re using systems that are industry agnostic, especially those that relate and directly impact your clients, you risk using a product that over time will prioritise feature and product development that is completely unrelated you. The problem? You either have a system that is a band-aid solution, or you have to switch to a new system again later on.

How to know if a system is industry-led and values lived experience?

  1. do they employ people with disability?

  2. do they have experience in the industry?

  3. do they understand the nuances of running a provider and the challenges you’re looking to solve?

  4. do they consult with participants and industry leaders to continue their product improvement?

Finally — it all comes down to what you want. Are you looking for partners who are in your corner, and obsessed with solving your extremely specific problems, or who service everyone and anyone, meaning your priorities might just not align with their product?
